Autumn glow

Photo from Rowan

I'm not a fan of summer sun, flowing dresses and sandy beaches. In fact, they are probably the things I dislike most.

Autumn is my season. When the leaves begin to curl and fade, fall and crackle beneath my feet; that's the time I begin to feel alive. A strange contrast to the bare and sleeping world outside.

Now, as much as I'd like to, I wont go on too much about gorgeous redheads - I think there's been enough most excellent discussion on the recent 'red' issue of Lula. Although, as demonstrated above, they do radiate a lovely warmth on the darker days of the season.

So I'm talking here about chunky knits. I've never been very confident in figure-hugging clothes and so can't wait to cover up in loose baggy jumpers, hats, scarves and mittens. I love feeling the fresh cool air on my face but being lovely and warm inside. I'm also a bit obsessed with browns, so this image has the effect of making me drool slightly and long for the cold to set in. The girl has an almost Pre-Raphaelite beauty, and the flowers behind her form a floral halo. It's divine.

Considering my attraction to the fluffy stuff of sheep, I'm challenging myself this year to learn how to knit. As an aside, I tend to set my yearly challenges after each birthday (one of which I've just survived), once I've had time to reflect on the previous year's achievement. More on that later.

So, I'm looking around for a good starter book (or website of course). If anyone has any recommendations, do let me know.

Autumn Shopping List:
Plaid skirt - to wear with knitted tights and boots
New mittens & matching scarf - last year's do not match my new wardrobe!
Navy beret
Brown knee-high boots
Good chunky knit sweater
Some form of party dress - I haven't worn a party dress since the age of 7 and I think it's about time

Right then, I suppose an introduction is in order

This is me.

I've just turned 28 and suddenly feel old after feeling so young for so long.

I fully confess to being half-girl, half-magpie and an awful hoarder of beautiful things. I love vintage clothes and trinkets; painting, buttons and unicorns; stationery, cute nightwear and film.

This is a blog about all the pretty things I find: art, fashion, photography, film, or perhaps just some beautiful words and precious moments.

Sometimes I feel there's so much beauty, such great opportunity and glowing love, that it overwhelms and I really can't keep it all in my mind for fear of going mad.

I hope that this little place can be a useful outlet that will save my sanity and enhance my creativity.

Please do email me with your pretty finds, comments and questions. I'll do my best to include them all.
